CONTEXT
Most of what shapes our built environment has not been critically examined in a long time. LAYR LABS exists to change that, one product at a time.
THE PROBLEM
Standards persist beyond their usefulness.
In construction and building product design, conventions become entrenched through repetition. A detail gets specified once, works adequately, and is never revisited. Over time, adequate becomes the ceiling rather than the floor.
THE INSIGHT
Small changes, meaningful outcomes.
Improvement does not always require reinvention. Often a more considered approach better materials, a more practical assembly, a longer useful life produces a measurably better result. These gains are available. They simply require the attention and intent to pursue them.
LAYR LABS engages with the decisions that shape everyday spaces and asks whether they can be done better. Not for the sake of novelty, but because performance, practicality, and long-term value matter to the people who build, and to those who live and work in what gets built.
